How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnosis is a very natural state of mind similar to daydreaming, which we very often find ourselves in throughout the day. Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a deeply relaxed state of mind which bypasses your conscious mind, and accesses your subconscious mind directly. This is where you become more receptive to suggestions that support behavioural and emotional changes. Hypnosis reduces your peripheral awareness, allowing your mind to concentrate on specific thoughts and goals.
Hypnosis is not mind control, you remain aware, in control, and able to accept or reject any suggestions. As Hypnotherapists, we simply guide you along, and you do the rest of the work, this is why we describe all hypnosis as self hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is a gentle yet effective way to treat numerous conditions, such as anxiety, depression, stress, phobias, habits, addictions, confidence and performance, sleep issues, and much more.

Myth Busting
Hypnotherapy is enjoying a modern revival, with more people turning to it for gentle lasting change. But, understandably people are wary due to the historical portrayal of hypnosis on the stage.

‘I will lose control’
This is not true. You are always aware and in control during hypnosis. You are in a deeply relaxed state where you remain fully able to speak, think and choose.
‘You can make me do things’
Also not true. Hypnosis cannot make you do anything against your values or wishes. It is a very natural state that we go into everyday, where positive change becomes easier.
‘What if I get stuck in hypnosis?’
This is simply not possible. Hypnosis is a very natural state of focused relaxation, similar to being absorbed in a book or daydream. You can come out of it whenever you want to.
What do the sessions look like?
Initially we will need to complete a consultation appointment. This can be done either face to face at the clinic, or we can do this over the phone. The consultation will give you a chance to talk through what you would like to achieve, what your worries are and an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have about hypnotherapy.
I will ask you to complete a consultation form with questions about your health and lifestyle, this allows me to tailor any subsequent sessions to your needs to make sure that your experience is unique to you.
Consultations at present are free and are available for up to an hour long.
During your first session of hypnosis, you will be asked to close your eyes and relax. There will be calming music in the background, whilst I guide you through the experience. When the session ends, I will gently bring you out of hypnosis, where you will have a chance to come around slowly, and peacefully.
A lot of people report a feeling of quiet calm after a session, as though a weight has been lifted from their shoulders.
